初めて来日したヤーコブさんは6月13日に東京・渋谷のTRUNK HOTELで開かれた「DSSE2019~知恵の使い道を、スライドさせる~」(主催・CLAVIS HELICE、斉藤圭祐代表)に参加し、その意図や狙いについて明かしてくれました。, SDGsに関わりはじめたのは2014年のこと。1通の電子メールがきっかけでした。ニューヨークで約20年前に起業し、事業が成功する中、蓄えた知恵を使い、コミュニケーションする機会を頂いた訳です。たくさんの人々、多くの事業……。コミュニケーションするには世の中はとても複雑ですが、それは決して悪いことではない。社会を形成するうえでも、新しい技術を開発するうえでも、複雑さは必要でもあるのです。 日本版制作プロジェクト」を応援、サポートしています。 今では当たり前になっているような図解も、考える時間を相当費やしたものがかなりありました。現在、世界の何カ国語に翻訳されているのかわかりませんが、各国の表現については信じるしかないと思っています。, そこで定められたのが169のターゲットになります。しかし、数が多く、理解できるか不安になります。デザイナーの仕事は、意味のあるものは残し、意味のないものは全てそぎ落とすことだと考えています。ターゲットを何度も読み返し、知識を共有することが重要だと思いました。「要はこういうことですよね」とまとめたのです。そうすれば、長々としたものでもあっという間に理解できる。デザインするのは17の目標だけでも大変でしたが、169のターゲットについてもわかりやすいものを作り上げたわけです。 メールの文書には国連が掲げたSDGsの17の目標と169項目にわたるターゲットが書かれていました。でも文字が多すぎ、詩的な表現とは言い難かった。しかし、貧困や環境、人の命に関するものなど、内容は私も感じていた問題そのもの。複雑なものをいかにわかりやすくするか。それは言葉を行動に移すということにもつながる。とにかくシンプルな言葉でデザインしたいと思ったのです。, よりポジティブに、未来に向かっていると感じさせ、目標に向かっているんだと体感させるような言葉はないか。17の目標をよりよく表現することが課題でした。例えば、「目標1」では「End Poverty(貧困を終わらせる)」ではなく、あえて「No Poverty(貧困をなくそう)」に変えたわけです。「目標2」でも飢餓を無くし、栄養を改善し、持続可能な農業を推進して「飢餓をゼロにする」としました。 By
